According to logisticsbusiness.com, Ocado Intelligent Automation (OIA) unveiled its cloud-based, AI-powered software platform Ocado IQ at MODEX 2026 — positioning AI as the critical differentiator for warehouse operators facing throughput pressure and labour constraints.
Ocado IQ Enables Flexible, Concurrent Pick Modes
Ocado IQ serves as the intelligence layer directing every pick, path, and priority across inbound-to-outbound workflows. It powers OIA’s market-proven Chuck AMR and pallet-handling Porter AMR, both showcased at booths #B10119 and #B10719. Unlike robotic systems enforcing a single pick mode, Ocado IQ supports two intelligent, concurrent modes: Sweep and TagTeam. This enables site-wide optimization across zones based on product density, velocity, and layout — countering inefficiencies of rigid, one-size-fits-all or swarm-style AMR deployments.
Porter AMR Targets Layout-Constrained Facilities
The Porter AMR automates pallet and cage handling, cross-docking, putaway, inventory moves, case picking, and piece picking. Designed for facilities with constrained layouts or mixed inventory profiles, it modernizes operations traditionally reliant on manual forklifts and trolleys — without major capital investment. The system is scheduled for availability by the end of 2026.
Chuck AMR Deployed in 120+ Warehouses Globally
Chuck AMR is already in use by retailers including Foot Locker, Lulus, CB2, and Paddywax to reduce costs and enhance workplace sustainability. Deployed in over 120 warehouses and distribution centres worldwide, Chuck implementations deliver two to three times efficiency gains and 50% lower labour costs compared to manual pick operations.
OSRS: High-Density Storage for High-Throughput Sectors
For attendees managing 5,000 order lines a day or more than 10,000 SKUs, OIA demonstrated its Ocado Storage and Retrieval System (OSRS) — described as the fastest, densest cubic storage technology for high-throughput fulfilment in pharmaceutical, healthcare, retail apparel, and third-party logistics sectors. A real-time 12-by-12-by-12 cell grid with six OSRS Robots operated live at the booth, leveraging Ocado’s patented single-cell design to enable high-velocity robot passing. Bots fetch inventory totes and deliver them to pick stations or On-Grid Robotic Pick Arms for order assembly.
