Granola Raises $125M at $1.5B Valuation, Expands from Meeting Notetaker to Enterprise AI Platform

March 25, 2026 – AI meeting transcription startup Granola has secured $125 million in Series C funding, led by Index Ventures with participation from Kleiner Perkins, valuing the company at $1.5 billion. This represents a six-fold increase from its previous $250 million valuation and marks Granola’s strategic pivot from a consumer-facing notetaking app to a comprehensive enterprise AI platform.

From Consumer Tool to Enterprise Platform

Granola began as a prosumer application that locally transcribes meetings and generates structured notes. Over the past year, the company has systematically shifted focus toward enterprise customers.

The platform now serves notable companies including Vanta, Gusto, Thumbtack, Asana, Cursor, Lovable, Decagon, and Mistral AI.

Introducing Spaces: Enterprise-Grade Knowledge Workspaces

Coinciding with the funding announcement, Granola unveiled “Spaces” – team collaboration workspaces with folder hierarchy support.

Users can query notes across different Spaces and folders, enabling structured knowledge storage and efficient retrieval.

“Spaces represents our evolution from a simple meeting recorder to an enterprise knowledge management platform.” — Granola Product Team

API Ecosystem: Bridging AI Workflows

Recognizing the commoditization of basic AI meeting transcription, Granola is building competitive moats through API ecosystem development.

Following February’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) server launch, the company now introduces two new APIs.

These APIs seamlessly integrate Granola’s note context into various AI workflows, connecting with tools including Claude, ChatGPT, and others.

Data Accessibility Controversy and Resolution

Granola’s API strategy partially addresses earlier user concerns about data accessibility.

Earlier this year, changes to local data storage architecture inadvertently broke user-configured on-device AI agent workflows.

“We didn’t intend to lock down data but needed to redesign storage for AI workflow compatibility.” — Chris Pedregal, Co-founder of Granola

In response, Granola committed to developing bulk data access APIs and exploring compatibility with local AI agents.

The Platformization Trend in Enterprise AI

Granola’s transformation reflects broader trends in enterprise AI applications.

As basic AI functionalities become standardized, feature-only applications struggle to maintain competitive advantage.

Successful enterprise AI companies are evolving into platforms through open APIs and ecosystem development.

Strategic Implications for Global SaaS Companies

Granola’s journey offers valuable lessons for SaaS companies worldwide.

Start with focused functionality to build user base, then penetrate enterprise markets with comprehensive solutions.

Strengthen competitive positioning through API openness and ecosystem development.

Looking forward, Granola plans to utilize the new funding to accelerate product development and expand enterprise customer reach.
