DHL Group’s New Strategy 2030 for Accelerating Sustainable Growth

The company plans to unlock its full growth potential through departmental and group-wide growth initiatives under the “Strategy 2030 – Accelerate Sustainable Growth.”

The DHL Group Management Board introduced Strategy 2030: “Accelerate Sustainable Growth.”

Bonn – The leading global logistics company, DHL Group, has unveiled its strategic framework for the next decade. Through “Strategy 2030 – Accelerate Sustainable Growth,” the company plans a 50% increase in revenue by 2030 compared to 2023 levels. The DHL Group aims to unlock its full growth potential through departmental and group-wide initiatives. Business units will continue to focus on their core profitable operations, stimulating growth through exceptional service excellence. The company will accelerate sustainable growth via its group-wide initiatives, focusing on rapidly growing geographical regions and industries, as well as the trend towards e-commerce. DHL Group also plans to enhance customer experiences at digital touchpoints. Through “Strategy 2030,” DHL further reinforces its commitment to carbon reduction and aims to adjust legal and management structures to ensure streamlined departmental setups.

“Strategy 2025” Guided DHL Group Through Turbulent Times

In the past five years, “Strategy 2025 – Delivering Excellence in a Digital World” effectively guided DHL Group through global challenges such as pandemics, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical tensions. The company made significant progress towards its triple bottom line goals as an employer, service provider, and investment choice, along with the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) roadmap introduced in 2021.

Accelerating Growth from Rapidly Growing Industries and Regions, E-commerce, and Digitization

In a complex and volatile environment, the logistics industry is evolving. Geopolitical tensions are reshaping global trade patterns. Companies are actively working to build more resilient supply chains. Additionally, the fight against climate change and changes in labor demographics add further complexity. While these industry shifts bring new challenges, DHL Group’s strong performance record and global footprint uniquely position it to seize additional growth opportunities. DHL aims to leverage its strengths by accelerating growth through group-wide initiatives that will drive additional growth beyond the five departments’ growth agendas:

Life Sciences & Healthcare

The DHL Group has a strong advantage in addressing structural changes in the pharmaceutical market, which relies on specialized logistics solutions such as temperature-controlled cold or frozen storage. The biopharmaceuticals, cell and gene therapy, and clinical trials markets are expected to grow at an annual compound growth rate (CAGR) of over 10% from 2023 to 2030, significantly higher than global GDP.

New Energy

The transformation in renewable energy and automotive mobility requires specialized logistics solutions such as handling wind turbine blades or battery storage systems. The CAGR is expected to exceed 15% between 2023 and 2030, offering significant growth potential for DHL Group.

Geographic Tailwinds

The DHL Group will leverage its strong global footprint and local expertise to capitalize on geographic tailwinds. This strategy targets profound changes in trade routes, the diversification of global supply chains, and the needs of rapidly growing companies worldwide.

E-commerce

E-commerce has been a continuous growth driver for DHL Group over recent years. The company will leverage the combined strengths of its departments to enhance its presence in the e-commerce market through integrated services such as fulfillment and last-mile delivery. The global e-commerce market is projected to grow at an annual compound rate of 7% by 2030.

Digital Sales

The DHL Group anticipates that digital sales capabilities will become standard for acquiring and retaining customers. Therefore, the group plans to expand its digital sales initiatives, creating enhanced online transaction experiences for all customers across the organization.


Sustainability: “Green Logistics First” Integrated into Strategic Framework

As a global logistics company aiming to decarbonize its operations by 2050, DHL Group has integrated sustainability into its existing strategic “triple bottom line” framework as the fourth strategic bottom line, known as “Green Logistics First.” The company aims to leverage its expertise to support customers in reducing their supply chain carbon footprint and gain market share in this evolving sector. Initiatives include forming strategic partnerships and intensifying decarbonization efforts to achieve a 30% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) blend by 2030.

To reduce complexity and support its growth agenda, DHL Group plans to align its complex legal structure with proven management structures. While the company’s management structure includes five divisions – Express, Global Forwarding/Freight, Supply Chain, E-Commerce, and Deutsche Post Parcel – which are straightforward, the underlying legal structure is more intricate and has some overlaps. The alignment aims to reduce complexity and create a more flexible and agile setup.

Simplification involves establishing Deutsche Post Parcel and E-commerce as independent corporate entities equivalent to all other entities. “Deutsche Post AG” will continue to be used for postal parcel services in Germany. This technical measure does not intend any substantial changes to the group’s business portfolio, wage and protection agreements, management responsibilities, or other legal commitments. Implementation is expected to take one to two years.
