BEML Ltd reported a 31.3% year-on-year fall in September-quarter net profit to ₹33 crore, even as revenue from operations grew 42.1% to ₹1,192 crore. EBITDA rose 10% to ₹80.3 crore, but the margin contracted to 6.7% from 8.7% as material costs jumped 51.6% to ₹724 crore and other expenses climbed to ₹227 crore. A higher current tax expense of ₹26.28 crore, against ₹60 lakh a year earlier, added to the pressure. BEML received orders worth ₹6,229 crore in the quarter and its order book stood at ₹21,388 crore as of September 30, 2026.
According to thehindubusinessline.com, BEML Ltd reported a 31.3% year-on-year decline in September-quarter net profit to ₹33 crore, even as revenue from operations climbed 42.1% to ₹1,192 crore, with rising material costs and operating expenses weighing on margins.
The defence and infrastructure equipment maker said EBITDA for the quarter reached ₹80.3 crore, up 10% from ₹73 crore in the year-ago period. However, the EBITDA margin contracted to 6.7% from 8.7%, reflecting cost pressures during the quarter, the report stated.
The profit decline came alongside a sharp increase in current tax expense, which further eroded the bottom line. The results cover the quarter ended September 30, 2026, and were published on November 5, 2026.
Material costs outpace revenue growth
Cost of materials consumed rose 51.6% year on year to ₹724 crore, outpacing the 42.1% revenue growth and squeezing profitability for the quarter.
Employee expenses increased to ₹219 crore from ₹203 crore a year earlier, while other expenses climbed to ₹227 crore from ₹158 crore, according to the report. The combination of higher input costs and operating spending offset the gains from stronger revenue.
The decline in net profit was also accentuated by a higher tax outgo. Current tax expense surged to ₹26.28 crore during the quarter, compared with ₹60 lakh in the corresponding period last year. This was partly offset by a deferred tax credit of ₹11.91 crore, against a deferred tax expense of ₹1.67 crore a year earlier.
Order book stands at ₹21,388 crore
BEML received orders worth ₹6,229 crore during the September quarter and executed orders worth ₹1,126 crore, the report said. Its order book stood at ₹21,388 crore as of September 30, 2026.
Of the total order book, orders worth ₹3,421 crore are scheduled for execution during the current financial year, while the remaining ₹17,967 crore are slated for execution in subsequent years.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has granted BEML an exemption from publishing segment-wise information in its financial results, according to the report.
