Walmart and Sam’s Club Prepare to Merge Supply Chains
Walmart has announced plans to integrate Sam’s Club’s supply chain staff with its internal supply chain team. This consolidation has been confirmed by Walmart’s head of supply chain operations, David Guggina, in support of long-term growth for both companies. The move is part of Walmart’s strategy to establish a more unified and efficient supply network.
“This is an important step in our journey of bringing together the future supply chains that will serve Sam’s Club and Walmart over the long term,” Guggina said. The collaboration is expected to streamline operations and accelerate growth by leveraging Walmart’s extensive enterprise systems and infrastructure. Notably, there will be no layoffs during this transition period, with employees seamlessly accessing Walmart resources and clearer career development paths provided.
Walmart has a history of integrating operations across its business units. In 2020, John Furner, CEO of Walmart U.S., merged the procurement staff for digital and physical stores into one unified merchandising department. This recent move follows a series of adjustments aimed at unifying and optimizing supply chain operations.
