Summary:
- According to a press release dated September 25, the convenience store chain Wesco headquartered in Michigan is upgrading its supply chain planning tools to streamline operations.
- Wesco has chosen Relex Solutions, a provider of supply chain and retail planning solutions, to automate processes across different business segments through a single platform. The integration will cover all 55 stores operated by Wesco.
- The company will also adopt Relex Mobile Pro, a mobile app that leverages artificial intelligence to improve retail operations by automating daily tasks. This application is expected to simplify inventory management and reduce stockouts and waste of perishable goods. Employees can access real-time product data, which the company says will enhance decision-making.
In-Depth Analysis:
Relex’s planning solutions aim to unify Wesco’s previously fragmented supply chain and space planning operations.
“Previously, Wesco managed its supply chain and space planning through multiple disconnected ERP systems. The shift towards Relex was driven by the urgent need for a more advanced and robust tool to support unified supply chain and space planning,” stated in the press release from Relex.
Wesco primarily operates year-round in Michigan with ownership and operation of a private distribution center, bulk fuel and propane businesses, as well as its own branded deli and bakery operations.
Relex collaborates with companies like Vita Coco, Lowe’s, and 7-Eleven to optimize end-to-end supply chain planning. For instance, Relex’s project team created digital twins for Vita Coco’s supply chain, aiding the company in identifying the most profitable procurement plans.
Convenience store retailers have started using automation and AI-driven technologies to simplify employee and customer experiences. Even smaller operators need to leverage these technologies to stay competitive, according to Mike Templeton, Digital Customer Experience Director at Casey’s General Stores.
