According to DC Velocity, Ryder System Inc. has completed its acquisition of Efficiency Enterprises, a regional provider of fleet management, maintenance, and leasing solutions for trucks, trailers, and material handling equipment.

Six new locations extend East Coast network

The transaction adds six new locations to Ryder’s fleet services network, spanning Florida, New York, Maryland, and Delaware. The sites are in Orlando, Tampa, and Fort Myers, Florida; Astoria, New York; Baltimore, Maryland; and Middletown, Delaware.

Ryder says the six markets represent strategically important freight and distribution hubs across the Eastern United States. Central Florida continues to experience growth driven by distribution, e-commerce, and food and beverage logistics, while Astoria provides access to dense urban delivery and last-mile operations across New York City.

Baltimore serves as a major gateway for port-related freight and manufacturing activity, according to the company, and Middletown sits within a key Mid-Atlantic distribution corridor connecting major East Coast markets.

Roughly 50 technicians and 1,200 units join operations

The acquisition brings approximately 50 technicians and a fleet of roughly 1,200 units into Ryder’s operations. The Efficiency Enterprises fleet includes more than 900 power and trailer units and over 200 material handling equipment units.

Ryder says the deal expands its ability to support customers with integrated fleet management, maintenance, and transportation solutions. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition was announced on Nov 04, 2026, and closed with the six locations folded into Ryder’s existing fleet services footprint.

Executive: workforce and customer relationships drive expansion

Ryder framed the deal around Efficiency Enterprises’ established maintenance and rental operations in high-demand logistics markets.

“With Efficiency Enterprises’ experienced workforce, established customer relationships, and strong maintenance and rental operations, we are expanding our ability to support fleets operating in high-demand logistics markets.” — Tom Havens, president of Fleet Management Solutions for Ryder

Havens leads Fleet Management Solutions, the Ryder business unit that absorbs the acquired locations and workforce. The unit now covers the six additional markets across the Eastern U.S.

Expeditors Q3 air volumes rise 13%, revenue up 51.4%

Expeditors International posted a 13% year-on-year rise in air cargo volumes in the third quarter, with growth accelerating from 8% in July to 19% in September. Air revenues climbed 51.4% to $1.5bn, supported by hyperscaler demand tied to AI infrastructure and elevated freight rates. Air operating costs rose 52% to $1.2bn, trimming the operating margin to 24.3% from 24.8% a year earlier, while airfreight service operating profits reached $375m against $253m last year. Capacity remained tight on fleet expansion limits, aircraft delivery delays, and EU de minimis rules affecting Asia-Europe e-commerce.

Maersk orders 26 ships adding 483,600 TEU from 2029

Maersk has ordered 26 container ships with a combined capacity of about 483,600 TEU, scheduled for delivery in 2029 and 2030 as part of its fleet renewal strategy. The order will not ease near-term pressure: congestion at Asian ports has left roughly 8.5% of the global container fleet unavailable, equal to about 3m TEU, and schedule reliability fell below 50% in August, its lowest since September 2022, with vessels arriving an average of 6.8 days late. Cleveland Group's Hayley Hedley warns the newbuilds change nothing for importers this winter and urges shippers to track individual vessels rather than rely on booking arrival dates.
