Government and Industry Alignment
The Ministry of Electronics and IT confirmed that Day 2 of SEMICON India 2026 witnessed 25 key partnerships across the semiconductor value chain. Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw noted increased business-to-business engagement, with strong participation from over 30 companies each in the Japan and Singapore pavilions, and additional representation from South Korea, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Sweden. The event, held at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, is scheduled to run until September 19, drawing an estimated 50,000 visitors from 52 countries.
Tata Electronics Drives Localisation
Tata Electronics announced multiple domestic supply-chain initiatives, including a collaboration with INOX Air Products to strengthen local availability of high-purity gases for semiconductor manufacturing. It also partnered with Sumitomo Chemical to localise high-purity wet chemicals and other advanced front-end materials. With Kelington Engineering, Tata Electronics will develop gas distribution systems and high-purity piping, while its agreement with Japan’s Enomoto focuses on joint R&D and localisation of lead-frame manufacturing for advanced packaging.
Another major agreement sees Tata Electronics and L&T Semiconductor Technologies explore manufacturing of L&T’s semiconductor products—including consumer-grade camera modules—at Tata’s fabrication and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test facilities.
Power Electronics and Indigenous Development
In power electronics, L&T Semiconductor Technologies launched several product-development partnerships: with Virtual Forest on air-conditioning and solar-powered systems; with Newen Systems on silicon carbide power modules for renewable energy and AI data centres; with Fimer India on insulated gate bipolar transistors; and with Capital Power Systems on IoT modules for smart meters—starting with an indigenous 4G communication module. A government-led initiative involving the Ministry of Electronics and IT, Ministry of Power, and POWERGRID aims to indigenise silicon carbide power modules for high-voltage direct current transmission, with pilot deployment at POWERGRID’s 1,000 MW Pusauli project in Bihar.
Semiconductor Assembly, Testing and Skilling
Kaynes Semicon partnered with IndieSemiC for qualification, assembly, and testing of advanced packages and custom system-in-package development. Meanwhile, Kaynes Semicon, Microchip Technology, and GridCrest Technologies jointly announced plans to build an end-to-end India-based pathway for energy-metering system-on-chips. On skilling, the India Semiconductor Academy—a national platform led by SEMI and the India Deep Tech Alliance—will launch with partners including Cadence, Micron Technology, Synopsys, IIT Kanpur, and UC San Diego. NIELIT and the Semiconductor Laboratory also released an indigenous 0.8-micron open-source Process Design Kit on the NIELIT eChipHub platform.
The India Deep Tech Alliance reported $263 million in investments across 56 Indian deep-tech companies. Anku Jain, Managing Director of MediaTek India, stated:
