# J.B. Hunt Supports Freight and Logistics Startup Incubator
The logistics venture lab is expected to start launching startups in 2025.
J.B. Hunt Transport and UP.Labs announced that they will jointly establish a technology-based freight and logistics startup incubator called the Logistics Venture Lab. This news was released on October 2nd.
The project plans to launch up to six startups over the next three years, starting from 2025, to address core strategic challenges in the transportation industry.
These startups will focus on improving efficiency and addressing common issues in major service areas of the industry such as freight brokerage, dedicated transportation, intermodal, and full truckload shipping.
“From the origins of modern intermodal transport to digital freight matching platforms, to emerging safety technologies, J.B. Hunt has always been people-centric, technology-driven, and capacity-oriented,” said Shelley Simpson, CEO of J.B. Hunt. “Since our founding in 1961, we have been on a path of innovation. Our collaboration with UP.Labs will continue this journey, exploring new ways to break through, adapt, and accelerate the transportation industry.”
The partnership aims to leverage cutting-edge technology to address long-standing industry challenges. UP.Labs will utilize its expertise in startup incubation and emerging technologies to complement J.B. Hunt’s deep industry knowledge and operational experience.
“Through the Logistics Venture Lab, we will launch startups rooted in big data, generative AI, and emerging technologies with some of the world’s best entrepreneurs to solve industry problems,” said John Kuolt, founder and CEO of UP.Labs.
The project was launched at the fourth meeting of UP.Summit. UP.Summit is an invite-only event that brings together 300 individuals to discuss challenges in transportation.
UP.Labs organizes this event. UP.Labs is controlled by venture capital firm UP.Partners, which collaborates with corporate partners including automaker Porsche (a unit of the Volkswagen Group), retail chain Walmart, and now J.B. Hunt.
Walmart ranks first among the largest private carriers in North America.
J.B. Hunt ranks third on the TT 100 list of the largest leased carriers in North America and is also the second-largest full truckload carrier, as well as a leading intermodal/drayage carrier.
The latest UP.Summit was held in Bentonville, Arkansas, which is Walmart’s hometown.
Tom Walton and Steuart Walton co-hosted the event with Ross Perot Jr. The Walton brothers are descendants of the Walmart founding family, with Steuart Walton currently serving on the company’s board.
