Klerobotics wins $5M Korean grant for AI bin-picking robots

According to VentureSquare, South Korean 3D machine-vision startup Klerobotics has been selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ Global TIPS R&D program, securing 5 billion won in government funding for a four-year project to develop an AI-powered bin-picking platform for logistics automation.

Project scope and technical targets

The project, titled “Development of a Bin Picking Platform Integrated with a Small, Large-Area Multiscale Structured Light 3D Vision Camera and a Controller Dedicated to AI Grasping and Low-Power Autonomous Learning,” will run until June 2030 with a total R&D budget of 6.2 billion won. The company aims to achieve a 3D measurement precision of 0.1 mm or less, a picking success rate of 99% or more, and system power consumption of 50 W or less.

The system integrates a compact, low-power 3D camera and a large-area camera that measures wide work areas, combining AI-based object recognition and robot control into a single platform. It is designed to handle irregularly stacked boxes, plastic bags, and envelopes in logistics centers—objects that differ significantly from standardized automotive parts.

From automotive to logistics

Klerobotics has already validated its technology in automotive manufacturing, supplying its CoPick3D solution to Hyundai Motor’s Ulsan EV plant and Kia’s Hwaseong plant. The company also developed the Fine Localizer for high-precision position measurement and the Fine Inspector for inspection, and recently launched Clevis, a low-code workflow engine that integrates these machine-vision capabilities.

Founded in 2021, Klerobotics has been successively selected for TIPS, Scale-up TIPS, and Post-TIPS programs. The company has attracted approximately 20.7 billion won in cumulative investment, including a Series A round in 2025 from SBVA, Mirae Asset Venture Investment, Kolon Investment, and FuturePlay. In the same year, revenue reached 4.2 billion won, an increase of about 2.5 times compared to the previous year.

Commercialization and global expansion

Klerobotics is focusing on reducing installation time and cost—a key barrier to automation adoption in logistics, where workpieces, lighting, and process configurations vary by site. By bundling 3D cameras and recognition/control software into a standardized platform, the company aims to leverage its automotive references to enter the global logistics automation market.

“We will expand the 3D machine vision technology accumulated in automotive manufacturing sites to the areas of logistics, inspection, and robot automation through this Global TIPS program. Based on technology verified in Korea, we will strengthen our competitiveness in overseas markets by collaborating with global customers and partners.” — Lee Jin-han, CEO of Klerobotics

The company is also conducting technology verification and business cooperation with overseas manufacturing companies and local partners, targeting clients in Japan, North America, and Europe. The project’s success will depend on maintaining consistent performance across various materials, lighting conditions, and operating speeds, matching the numerical targets achieved.

Supply Chain Fraud Theft Reaches $111M Amid Rising Sophistication

A newly exposed supply chain fraud scheme resulted in a confirmed $111 million loss, spanning 14 countries and operating from Q2 2023 through May 2026. Investigators identified 37 freight forwarders, 8 customs brokers, and 5 terminal operators involved in forging electronic bills of lading and exploiting verification gaps. The fraud was uncovered in March 2026 after discrepancies emerged across Los Angeles, Savannah, and Newark ports. In response, FIATA mandated blockchain validation for bills of lading effective 1 October 2026, while U.S. Customs launched Operation ChainGuard. Nineteen individuals face indictment as of 17 August 2026.

Americold launches $80M Port Saint John cold chain hub

Americold has launched an $80 million temperature-controlled import-export hub at Port Saint John in New Brunswick — its sixth facility in Canada and the first to integrate DP World’s terminal operations, CPKC’s rail network, and Americold’s cold chain infrastructure. The facility supports 22,000 pallet positions and eliminates drayage by linking port, warehouse, and rail in one seamless flow. It follows $750 million in public and private investment at the port, including DP World’s $247 million West Side modernization that boosted annual capacity to 1 million TEUs. Container throughput reached 239,364 TEUs in 2025 — up 29.4% year-on-year and 175% since 2021. The hub serves transatlantic, South American, and potential Australian trade lanes, with Gemini Cooperation and Hapag-Lloyd–Maersk calling the port since February 2025.
