Amazon Freight Expands Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) Service to Germany

Author: About Amazon Team

This program offers more flexible and cost-effective shipping options.

Amazon Freight Europe has launched a Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) service in Germany, providing Amazon suppliers and sellers with a new, more flexible transportation option. This latest expansion follows the success of the LTL program in the UK, where Amazon achieved a 100% on-time pickup rate and a 97% delivery within three days.

With the LTL service in Germany, businesses can now directly ship pallets to our fulfillment centers (FC) without having to book full truckloads. This helps optimize transportation capacity and reduce environmental impact.

The launch of the LTL program in Germany is a significant milestone in our goal to become the world’s most trusted freight provider. By opening up our network to external businesses, we offer more logistics options and control for suppliers and sellers while enhancing overall supply chain efficiency.

What is Less-Than-Truckload (LTL)?

LTL is a shipping method where goods from multiple shippers are consolidated onto the same truck. Businesses do not have to pay for an entire truck, but only for the space their cargo occupies, thus making more efficient use of truck capacity and reducing environmental impact.

Shippers using Amazon Freight’s LTL program can book their shipments online by providing information about pallet origin, destination, weight, and dimensions. Amazon Freight then consolidates these goods with others destined for similar locations to maximize trailer space and efficiency. These consolidated shipments are transported to Amazon’s fulfillment centers where they may be sorted and transferred to another truck for final delivery.

What Are the Benefits of LTL Shipping for Businesses?

  • Flexibility: LTL allows businesses to ship smaller quantities without having to book a full truckload.
  • Cost Savings: Shippers benefit from competitive pricing structures, including spot rates and contract prices negotiated directly with carriers.
  • Scalability: LTL shipping adapts to varying shipment volumes, allowing businesses to efficiently scale their logistics operations.
  • Sustainability: LTL consolidation reduces environmental impact by optimizing vehicle capacity and lowering carbon emissions per unit of freight.

The introduction of the LTL program in Germany provides Amazon suppliers and sellers with additional flexible and cost-effective shipping options. By leveraging the power of consolidation, we are helping businesses improve logistics efficiency and reduce their environmental footprint.
