CONCOR launches DFC freight corridor, deploys LNG trailers and EVs

According to indiashippingnews.com, Shri Sanjay Swarup, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), addressed the inaugural session of the CII Multimodal Transportation & Logistics Summit 2026 in New Delhi on May 30, 2026. The summit’s theme was “Strengthening Multimodal Logistics: Enabling Efficiency, Scale & Investments.”

DFC Connectivity Launches June 1, 2026

Shri Swarup announced that enhanced Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) connectivity between the National Capital Region (NCR) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) will become operational on June 1, 2026. This corridor is designed to reduce transit time and improve cargo movement across key trade routes. The NCR–JNPT route forms a critical spine for containerized freight linking northern industrial hubs with India’s largest container port.

Green Mobility Deployment Underway

CONCOR is actively deploying low-emission equipment across its logistics network. According to the report, the company has introduced LNG-powered trailers, Electric Vehicles (EVs), and Electric Reach Stackers (RSTs) as part of its green mobility initiatives. These deployments align with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and the Ministry of Railways’ 2030 net-zero target for non-traction railway energy use.

Infrastructure and Indigenous Manufacturing Expansion

The source states CONCOR is advancing multiple infrastructure projects, including the development of the Integrated Logistics Hub at Sonik, which aims to consolidate rail-road-sea interfaces. Additionally, the company is pursuing indigenous container manufacturing — a strategic initiative launched in FY 2024–25 to reduce import dependency and cut lead times. CONCOR produced over 12,500 TEUs of domestically manufactured containers in FY 2025–26, per data published by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

Collaborative Rail Services and End-to-End Integration

CONCOR’s collaboration with Indian Railways includes three new service lines launched in Q1 FY 2026: assured transit Container Train Services via Agra and Kanpur, Door-to-Door Parcel Services, and the Bharat Container Shipping Line (BCSL) — a joint venture established in March 2025 with a committed capital infusion of ₹420 crore. BCSL began operations in April 2026 with two dedicated feeder vessels serving domestic coastal routes.

Technology and Customer-Centric Operations

Shri Swarup emphasized IT-enabled solutions that deliver real-time cargo visibility and automated documentation. The company’s integrated platform supports First Mile–Last Mile integration across more than 280 inland container depots (ICDs) and 37 major ports. As of March 31, 2026, CONCOR handled 8.9 million TEUs, representing a 12.4% year-on-year increase — outpacing India’s overall containerized freight growth of 9.7%, according to the Central Statistics Office.

“CONCOR remains focused on supporting India’s vision of developing a world-class, resilient, and sustainable multimodal logistics network.” — Shri Sanjay Swarup, CMD, CONCOR
