Gujarat-DP World Partnership Boosts Global Supply Chain Connectivity

According to indiashippingnews.com, the Government of Gujarat and DP World have reaffirmed and expanded their strategic collaboration to strengthen Gujarat’s role in global supply chains. On April 25, 2026, Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel met with Yuvraj Narayan, Group CEO of DP World, in Gandhinagar to explore new avenues for enhancing the state’s logistics and trade infrastructure.

Foundational MoUs and Strategic Projects

Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit form the basis for transformative infrastructure initiatives across ports, logistics parks, rail freight, and economic zones. These projects aim to improve trade efficiency, enhance multimodal connectivity, and generate large-scale employment across Gujarat.

Port Infrastructure Expansion

The partnership is actively reinforcing Gujarat’s maritime ecosystem through world-class port development. Key operational and upcoming assets include DP World’s existing operations at Mundra Port and the planned greenfield terminal at Tuna Tekra near Kandla Port. These developments are expected to drive export growth, reduce logistics costs, and solidify Gujarat’s strategic importance in global supply chains.

Broader Industry Context

Gujarat has long served as India’s industrial and export powerhouse — accounting for over 22% of the country’s total merchandise exports in FY2023–24 (Ministry of Commerce & Industry data). Its port-led logistics strategy aligns with national initiatives like Sagarmala and the National Logistics Policy, both aimed at cutting India’s logistics cost from ~14% of GDP to 8% by 2030. Globally, major port operators such as Maersk and COSCO have similarly pursued greenfield terminals and inland logistics park integrations in emerging markets to secure end-to-end control — a trend mirrored in DP World’s Tuna Tekra investment. For supply chain professionals, this signals growing opportunities for integrated port-rail-warehouse solutions along India’s western corridor, particularly for automotive, pharmaceutical, and textile exporters seeking faster, more predictable lead times to Europe and the Middle East.

Government Commitment and Vision

The Chief Minister underscored Gujarat’s continued attraction of global investment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, framing the DP World partnership as central to building a robust, future-ready logistics and maritime ecosystem. He emphasized DP World’s significant contribution to the state’s infrastructure and economic growth — a relationship described as long-standing.
