Main Points:
- The Michigan-based convenience store chain Wesco is upgrading its supply chain planning tools to streamline operations, according to a press release dated September 25.
- Wesco has chosen Relex Solutions, a provider of supply chain and retail planning solutions, to automate different business units on a single platform. The integration will be implemented across Wesco’s 55 stores.
- The company will also adopt Relex Mobile Pro, an AI-powered mobile application designed to enhance retail operations by automating routine tasks. This application is expected to simplify inventory management and reduce stockouts and perishable goods waste. Employees can access real-time product data for better decision-making, the company said.
In-Depth Analysis:
Relex planning solutions aim to unify Wesco’s supply chain and space planning operations, which were previously disjointed.
“Previously, Wesco managed its supply chain and space planning through multiple disconnected ERP systems. The motivation for switching to Relex was to obtain a more sophisticated and robust tool that supports unified supply chain and space planning,” said Relex in the statement.
Wesco primarily operates year-round in Michigan with ownership and operation of a private distribution center, bulk fuel and propane businesses, as well as its own branded deli and bakery operations.
Relex collaborates with companies such as Vita Coco, Lowe’s, and 7-Eleven to optimize end-to-end supply chain planning. For example, Relex’s project team created a digital twin of Vita Coco’s supply chain, helping the company identify the most profitable sourcing plans.
Convenience store retailers have begun using automation and AI technologies to simplify experiences for both employees and customers. Even smaller operators must use these technologies to stay competitive, according to Mike Templeton, Digital Customer Experience Director at Casey’s General Stores, in C-Store Dive.
