DHL has acquired a freight forwarding company in Uruguay to strengthen its logistics presence across South America.
DHL’s acquisition targets a locally established freight forwarder headquartered in Montevideo, Uruguay. The transaction reflects DHL’s strategic focus on deepening regional capabilities in Latin America, where demand for integrated international freight solutions continues to grow.
The deal adds immediate scale to DHL’s air and ocean forwarding operations in Uruguay, including customs brokerage, warehousing, and cross-border documentation services. With this move, DHL now operates in 15 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean as of 2026.
Integration and service expansion
The acquired entity brings 23 years of local market expertise, a team of 87 employees, and direct partnerships with 4 major ports in Uruguay, including the Port of Montevideo and the Port of Nueva Palmira.
Integration into DHL Global Forwarding is scheduled for completion by Q4 2026. Post-acquisition, clients will gain access to DHL’s global digital platform, MySupplyChain, which supports real-time shipment tracking, rate management, and compliance reporting across 220 countries.
“This acquisition enables us to offer end-to-end visibility and seamless connectivity between Uruguay and key trade corridors — especially those linking Mercosur markets with North America and Europe,” said Carlos Mendoza, Regional CEO for DHL Global Forwarding Latin America.
Strategic context in Latin America
Uruguay represents a high-growth node in DHL’s broader $1.2 billion investment plan for Latin American infrastructure over the period 2024–2027. That plan includes facility upgrades in São Paulo, Santiago, and Bogotá, alongside new cold-chain hubs in Lima and Buenos Aires.
The Uruguayan forwarder reported annual revenue of $14.3 million in 2025, with 68% of its volume moving via ocean freight and 29% via air freight — figures aligned with DHL’s regional growth targets for multimodal share expansion.
