Indonesian Manufacturing Exports Rise 7.37% in H1 2026

According to ekonomi.bisnis.com, Indonesia’s manufacturing exports rose 7.37% in the first half of 2026, becoming the primary driver of non-oil-and-gas export growth — contributing 6.18 percentage points to overall nonmigas export expansion.

Manufacturing Dominates Nonmigas Export Growth

The Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) reported that nonmigas exports reached US$134.58 billion in cumulative January–June 2026, up 4.90% year-on-year. This growth was anchored by the manufacturing sector — formally classified as “processed industry” — which posted the strongest performance among all nonmigas subsectors.

Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, stated during a press briefing on Monday, 3 August 2026:

“Cumulatively, the increase in nonmigas export value occurred mainly in the processed industry sector, which grew 7.37%. This sector was the main driver of nonmigas export performance from January to June 2026, contributing 6.18%.” — Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS)

Key export commodities underpinning this growth included processed nickel products, crude palm oil (CPO), basic organic chemicals derived from agriculture, other basic organic chemicals, and aluminum. These goods collectively accounted for the majority of manufacturing export gains during the period.

Strong June Performance and Sectoral Breakdown

Monthly data reinforced the sector’s momentum: in June 2026, manufacturing exports surged 9.86% year-on-year, reaching US$20.88 billion — representing 85.6% of total nonmigas exports that month (US$24.39 billion). Overall Indonesian exports (including oil and gas) hit US$25.46 billion in June, an 8.84% YoY increase.

This growth was driven almost entirely by nonmigas exports, which rose 9.46% YoY, while oil-and-gas exports declined 3.78% YoY to US$1.07 billion. Within nonmigas, two commodity groups delivered outsized gains: mineral fuels (HS27), up 49.67% YoY, and nickel and nickel-based products (HS75), soaring 69.30% YoY.

China Remains Top Destination Amid Diversified Trade Flow

China remained Indonesia’s largest nonmigas export destination in H1 2026, with shipments totaling US$34.56 billion — a 18.10% YoY increase. This growth was primarily fueled by exports of nickel and nickel-based goods (HS75), animal and vegetable fats and oils (HS15), and mineral fuels (HS27).

The United States and India ranked second and third, respectively. Combined, these three markets accounted for 44.31% of Indonesia’s total nonmigas exports in the first half of 2026. Specifically, exports to the US reached US$15.82 billion, led by electrical machinery and equipment (HS85), which held a 7.24% share. Exports to India totaled US$9.25 billion, with mineral fuels (HS27) making up 32.87% of that value.

These figures reflect a continued strategic shift toward value-added processing — particularly in critical minerals like nickel — and underscore Indonesia’s growing role as a regional manufacturing hub integrated into global supply chains centered on China, the US, and India.
