Freehand raises $75M to scale AI agents for Fortune 500 supply chain spend

According to www.manilatimes.net, Freehand has raised $75 million in new funding to expand its autonomous AI agents that manage supply-chain spend for Fortune 500 enterprises.

Enterprise-scale AI deployment across global supply chains

The financing round, announced on July 29, 2026, was co-led by Battery Ventures and NewRoad Capital Partners, with participation from PSP Growth — the venture capital firm founded by former U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker — as well as Nexus Venture Partners. Freehand’s AI agents are already deployed at Meta, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Dunkin’, and Cardinal Health. These deployments follow Freehand’s emergence from stealth and address mounting pressure on traditional outsourcing models driven by tariffs, tax policy shifts, and immigration restrictions.

Freehand’s technology replaces legacy software and outsourced labor teams with AI agents that autonomously execute procurement, supplier management, invoice processing, and payment operations across complex categories including logistics, direct materials, and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO). According to the report, American companies spend more than $20 trillion annually on raw materials, logistics, data centers, and services — a figure cited from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Measurable ROI and operational impact

Across early customer implementations, organizations recovered 5–10% of spend in complex categories, completed workflows 5–7x faster, and reduced procure-to-pay cycles by more than 70%. As a result, clients are redeploying staff to higher-value tasks while cutting traditional business process outsourcing (BPO) contracts. Freehand estimates enterprises collectively spend $16 billion yearly on supply chain software and another $348 billion on personnel to perform tasks those tools cannot automate.

“Freehand marks one of the first full-scale agentic deployments at Unilever and is an early anchor in the shift from software that assists to software that runs our supply chain.” — Matt Algar, Global VP of Supply Chain at Unilever

Category Context Graph powers enterprise-grade autonomy

Freehand’s core intellectual property is its Category Context Graph — a proprietary knowledge layer that captures every decision, transaction, and exception within a spend category. By integrating unstructured data from contracts, emails, and chat logs with structured ERP and procurement system data, the graph gives each AI agent the contextual awareness of a tenured supply-chain expert — plus a full audit trail for every action taken. Each deployed agent continuously enriches the graph, creating a compounding intelligence effect where successive decisions improve accuracy and autonomy.

“We built Freehand to close that gap — with AI Agents that decide, act and take accountability for outcomes. This is the beginning of true autonomy in the enterprise.” — Nitin Jayakrishnan, co-founder and CEO of Freehand

Nitin Jayakrishnan previously founded and sold Pando, an enterprise SaaS platform for logistics. His co-founder, Abhijeet Manohar, emphasized the paradigm shift from building software “for the user” to building software “that is the user.” He noted:

“The difference between an agent that acts and a chatbot that suggests is context.” — Abhijeet Manohar, co-founder of Freehand

Strategic validation from investors

Dharmesh Thakker, General Partner at Battery Ventures, who is joining Freehand’s board, highlighted the distinction between Freehand’s agents and conventional AI co-pilots:

“Unlike co-pilots that simply answer questions, Freehand’s Agents have enterprise context, make decisions, and take actions — this agency unlocks millions in savings for enterprises.” — Dharmesh Thakker, General Partner at Battery Ventures

Gregoire Lehmann, partner at NewRoad Capital Partners, underscored measurable outcomes:

“What stood out to us about Freehand wasn’t just the technology, but the measurable business outcomes customers were achieving.” — Gregoire Lehmann, partner at NewRoad Capital Partners

Penny Pritzker, Founder and Chairman of PSP Partners & PSP Growth, tied Freehand’s progress to national competitiveness:

“America’s industrial competitiveness relies on how effectively our largest companies operate. Freehand is one of a few companies converting frontier AI into measurable productivity gains across enterprise supply chains, with rigor, scale and accountability.” — Penny Pritzker, Founder and Chairman of PSP Partners & PSP Growth
