Louisiana Port Gets $1M Loan for Union Pacific Rail Spur
Louisiana Economic Development has awarded a $1 million loan under its FastSites program to fund a rail spur linking the Port of Columbia to Union Pacific’s main line. The $7 million project, located on a 400-acre site 30 miles south of Monroe, La., also draws funding from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and the Delta Regional Authority’s Community Infrastructure Fund. Construction is set to begin in Q1 2027 and finish by 2028. Port leaders say the connection will create new transportation options for regional businesses and strengthen industrial recruitment efforts, including for Louisiana Green Fuels.
