According to www.itln.in, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has awarded a work order worth ₹929.5 million to Softtech Engineers Limited to implement a Digital Twin platform at the port.
Digital Twin Implementation Timeline and Core Functions
The platform is designed to create a real-time digital replica of port assets, infrastructure, and operational activities — enabling optimization of port operations and trade facilitation. According to JNPA Chairperson Gaurav Dayal, core functionalities are targeted for completion by February 2027, with full operational readiness expected by February 2028. The system will integrate real-time data streams and predictive intelligence across multiple domains including vessel traffic management, cargo and logistics flows, and vehicular decongestion.
Operational and Predictive Capabilities
JNPA Deputy Chairperson Ravish Kumar Singh stated that the Digital Twin will consolidate real-time data and predictive intelligence into a single operational environment, transforming how port operations are monitored, planned, and optimised. The initiative supports predictive maintenance of critical infrastructure to minimise downtime, optimise asset performance, and extend infrastructure lifecycle. It also includes surveillance, monitoring, and incident management features aimed at enhancing safety and security across the port premises.
Sustainability, Compliance, and Decision Support
The platform will monitor environmental metrics including green cover, air quality, and water quality to advance sustainability objectives and environmental stewardship. It will deliver data-driven insights, predictive analytics, and integrated operational dashboards to support strategic planning and decision-making. Automated monitoring and reporting functions will ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to statutory requirements. According to JNPA, the initiative is expected to improve operational efficiency, asset utilisation, environmental sustainability, safety, and service delivery while supporting trade and logistics operations.
