65% of Warehouses Plan AI Software by 2026

According to www.infios.com, warehouse modernization is accelerating globally as operations confront intensifying labor constraints, rising cost pressures, and heightened expectations for speed and accuracy. Drawing on Zebra Technologies’ 2024 Warehouse Vision Study, the report highlights that 70% of warehousing decision-makers were already facing modernization mandates heading into 2025—and 64% planned to increase funding over the next five years to meet them. Crucially, 87% agreed that technology investment is essential to achieving those goals.

Staged Modernization Across Operations

Modernization efforts are not uniform: maturity levels drive divergent priorities. Advanced warehouses—already digitized and automated—are shifting toward AI-enabled capabilities. The source states that 65% have started or plan to implement AI-enabled software to improve performance, workflows, and maintenance. Similarly, 61% plan to invest in software that automates analytics and decision-making, turning frontline data into strategic insights for inventory, workflow, and resource management.

In contrast, many facilities remain at earlier stages. According to the report, 61% still need to automate workflows, 62% must increase supply chain visibility, 59% require better inventory and asset visibility within the warehouse, and 59% prioritize labor optimization.

Acceleration and Intelligence Integration

A key trend is urgency: 63% of warehouse decision-makers plan to accelerate their modernization timelines. This reflects competitive pressure and operational imperatives. Technology serves as the unifying enabler across all maturity levels—from foundational automation to advanced intelligence layers.

  • Hundreds of warehouses are adopting wearable mobile computers and voice-directed technologies for hands-free, high-accuracy task execution
  • Others are integrating vision sensors at dock doors, conveyor lines, and packing benches to automate scanning, traceability, dimensioning, and visual inspections
  • 65% plan to implement predictive analytics software, while 57% plan to deploy machine learning that identifies patterns, makes predictions, and recommends—or even executes—decisions

The Frontline as a Strategic Guide

Human input remains central to effective modernization. The source states that 91% of warehouse decision-makers involve frontline associates in automation and modernization decisions. Yet the report notes that many still fall short in deeply understanding day-to-day challenges—an insight critical for prioritizing high-impact interventions.
