According to Air Cargo News, Korean Air has integrated its air cargo capacity onto the Freightos digital platform, enabling freight forwarders to access real-time rates and book shipments instantly across its fleet of 166 aircraft, including 23 freighters.
Digital integration targets key trade lanes
The rollout focuses on primary air cargo gateways linking North America and Europe to Asia. Forwarders operating in these regions can now digitally search, quote, and book shipments across Korean Air’s full network. The agreement was officially announced on 30 June 2026 during the Air Cargo Shanghai 2026 event, with the signing ceremony held at Korean Air’s Shanghai office.
Strategic partnership with Freightos
Freightos, a global freight pricing, booking, and procurement platform, now hosts Korean Air’s live capacity data. This marks Korean Air as the latest carrier to join the Freightos network — a move aligned with broader industry digitization efforts. Pablo Pinillos, chief executive of Freightos, stated:
“We are thrilled to welcome Korean Air onto the Freightos network. Providing forwarders with direct, instant access to real-time capacity and eBooking is exactly how we drive greater efficiency and resilience across the global supply chain.” — Pablo Pinillos, chief executive of Freightos
Also speaking at the launch, Joyce Tai, executive vice president, worldwide partnerships at Freightos, emphasized the milestone’s regional significance:
“This is a partnership we are proud to launch, and I’m excited to join the team to kick it off firsthand. Korean Air is one of the world’s premier carriers, and welcoming them onto the Freightos network is a significant milestone for digital freight in Asia.” — Joyce Tai, executive vice president, worldwide partnerships at Freightos
Cargo division leadership on digital transformation
Jae Dong Eum, executive vice president and head of the cargo business division at Korean Air, underscored the strategic intent behind the integration:
“Digitalisation is a core component for maintaining a competitive edge in the global air cargo market. By expanding our digital reach through Freightos, we are not simply establishing digital channels but actively delivering a seamless, high-value digital customer experience to our existing forwarders.” — Jae Dong Eum, executive vice president and head of the cargo business division at Korean Air
This initiative follows Freightos’ recent accession to the IATA Digitalization Leadership Charter, reinforcing alignment with international air cargo digitization standards. The platform’s capabilities support end-to-end visibility and automated procurement — critical capabilities amid rising demand for supply chain resilience and real-time capacity transparency.
The integration also reflects broader sector trends: Emirates SkyCargo delivered its first converted Boeing 777 freighter on 30 June 2026, while Schiphol Airport extended dnata’s cargo ground handling license for seven years. These concurrent developments signal accelerating investment in both physical and digital infrastructure across major air cargo hubs.
